The Wilderness Season.

Have you ever been in that season of life that you doubt everything you ever believed in??
Maybe it was in friendships, business, religion or family but something you have put all your trust in has failed you and it has put you into a personal crisis? It is at this point that you are in the wilderness wondering where God is not seeing him for all the trees, and needing to hear his voice yet the voices of fear, bitterness and anger are so loud it is hard to hear and then you wondered did I ever hear his voice??? When we find ourselves here it is hard to talk about or discuss because of that lack of trust or fear that those around you will think you have totally lost it which you probably agree and just walk away feeling the hurt going even deeper.

It is in those season that I know God is calling our names and asking us to go deeper with him. Wanting us to hold on through the wilderness so that we do not get lost and know that once again that focus, refreshment and deep passion will once again fill us. It is in the wilderness that we will find his provision and guidance once again, calling out to him in desperation for our spiritual lives knowing that he is our only Saviour and maybe that is why we are here in this place to begin with, to remember him, to find humility, grace and a 1st love that we had lost.

I am doing the Priscilla Shirer study "One in a Million" This study has provided the scripture and focus that I need right now and reminds me that God is with me and with us during these times in our life that life is just too hard to live without his consent love and presence in our lives. He has provided me through this Bible Study with the scriptures that I need, the Holy Spirit every morning reminds of me of how great God's love is for me and how faithful his provision.

Exodus 15: 22-25, 27
Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea and they went into the Desert of Shur. For three days they traveled in the desert without finding water. When they came to Marah, they could not drink its water because it was bitter. So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, "What are we to drink." Then Moses cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became sweet.
Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs and seventy palm trees, and they camped there near the water.

Thank You God for your faithfulness and your patience as we go through the wildernesses of life, you are my King.

I would love to hear from you:

Am I not enough????

The Israelites prayed and prayed for freedom and when they received it, they complained!? This freedom involved plagues, leaving at midnight, facing the Red Sea, seeing the Red Sea part and the miracles just continued over a life time, yet where was the gratitude? Where was the love? Only two of them made it into the promise land.

In life if you are like me you pray, prayers are answered but there is always another prayer that seems to be ignored. Daily you see miracles and receive them yet in the next sentence complain because something else didn't turn out right and the miracle, well it is already yesterday's news. My kids remind me daily that I am not fair and that the world is not fair; this is no surprise as I could have told them the world is not fair I have been living it almost 40 years and I want to see them just try to raise 4 boys (fairly on a daily basis, not a chance, but the funny thing is, it is always fair when it favors them)!!! But with all this said is God enough? If life isn't fair, if things go wrong, if miracles loose their pop, is God enough????

Will you remain faithful???

Is God enough? Is his son's death on the cross enough to offset the dog days on this earth that just want to destroy our faith in him? Does the love of the cross allow us to praise when praise is not on our lips? Does the love of the cross allow us to love when love is not in our hearts? Does the cross sustain us during the hard and dry seasons of our lives, when life is just not fair?

Oh, how I pray that the cross is enough in my life and that he will find me faithful. Jesus has to be enough or peace, love and forgiveness will always be one bad day, one self pity trip, one unaswered prayer away. May the love of Jesus and his sacrifice on the cross be enough to sustain this life for you and for me until we meet him.

Psalms 118:24, This is the day that the LORD has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Your love is amazing LORD! I praise you!

The Common Man

The common man, I find myself as one most days. Exemplifying the traits of a rat race mom, in a mad world trying to get more done in one day than a man can achieve in a year. With all of this said I sit down for my morning devotions, during prayers and reading the Word wondering why my heart feels so distant, so empty needing to be filled up once again. Why??? Why does it get so empty so fast???

I found myself in James 4 this morning and in those words we are instructed,
verse 4, You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes a enemy of God. Verse 7 Submit yourselves then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands you sinners and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Verse 10, Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

Loving the world, friendship with the world?? Submit to God, flee the devil??? Double-minded and humble??? In this fast pace life as the day goes from morning to night, it is hard to see when the transition happens but somewhere between the phone calls, errands and kids, loving the world becomes easier, double-minded becomes a way of life and I forget who my King is, who my Savior is and this world eats me alive from my heart to my mind to my spirit.

Today I will live for Jesus I pray that Jesus will find me faithful throughout this whole day and that from head to toe, heart to mind and hands I will glorify HIM.

Lord help me to remain faithful to love with your heart, to be passionate with your eyes, to listen with your ears and to know that you are God. I know that you are Alive, Active and in love with me. I pray that my life and all my sisters and brothers in Christ will be focused on you, help us to stay focus on you within our life of choas and strife of weariness and sometimes lonilness Holy Spirit grow within us so that we will not be common man but men worthy of your Name.

I love you Lisa.

Worship and Enjoy God

Question: What is the chief end of man? Answer: Man's chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. -New England Primer In the Pursuit of God by AW Tozer

"Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things and for thy pleasure they are and were created". Revelation 4:11

I have been reading the Pursuit of God as I have been facing hurt, disappointment and a crisis of faith that ask, "What am I doing?" As I read these words this morning my spirit was reminded that all I am to do is worship God, and enjoy Him FOREVER. But how often do I ENJOY God??
Like a child to a mother or father so often we take them for granted and most of our negative, abusive attitudes are acted out towards them. Today in prayer I left refreshed as I spent it concentrating on worshiping and glorifying God and remembering that it is about Him and them not me.

One day in Heaven my life will be filled with perfect worship and I believe that we will implusively fall to our knees in enjoyment and pleasure of his love and the eternal life that he has for us but today we are distracted, weighed down and worn out it takes (at least for me) intentionally focusing on worship and joy of the Lord. Not just prayer or reading the Word but intentional worship and joy.

John the Baptist understood as he told those that asked him, "I must decrease so he can increase".

May God draw you to the throne of worship and joy as he allows his presence to surround you and may his glory shine through your life. - Lisa

Coincidence I think NOT

I was in our outreach meeting at church the other night and testimonies were being shared about what visit keeps you coming back?!......

As I sat there and listened it was said over and over again, "it seems coincidental", "that this and that would happen and we would end up at a person's door that really needed"..................

Coincidence I think NOT!

So as our group went out we had the assignment to give a family a gift card and we began praying. I was excited because I had taken my 8 year old Conley with us and he was designated group leader. (He thought that was pretty cool!) As we drove around town no one was jumping out at us, so I told the group leader to get praying, we needed some guidance. So we pulled over and asked a gentleman doing yard work if he knew a family that needed some help??? The gentleman turned out to be a PASTOR! And he knew a family right away that was in need of help so we ZOOMED over ready to give this card out. What we found was a family stunned to get this gift as we asked to pray with him, his wife came out, you could tell she had been crying and she began to tell us that she was just sitting on the kitchen floor, crying and asking God for some help. COINCIDENCE I think NOT!!!

Praise God, oh how he hears our prayers, the women's for help, Conley's for guidance and mine to teach my son what it is to serve each other in Jesus. It is such a great privilege to serve one another. I think the word coincidence really needs to be taken out of the Christians vocabulary because my God has it all planned out. PRAISE HIM!!!

Psalms 116:1-2, I love the Lord because he hears my prayers and answers them. Because he bends down and listens, I will pray as long as I breathe!

In the calm of the storm

Take Shelter!!!!!!!! As the storms hit on Friday in Harrisburg it gave a new meaning to wind. They have clocked the winds in the surrounding areas at 106mph, needless to say Harrisburg has made out on the whole storm as we are the only town that has power this weekend, the hotels are full, and the restaurants are packed (that is a act of God, except during deer season)! I was working at the bank Friday and they were preparing us to take shelter in the vault, I knew that it was probably the safest place in town at that point but my kids, my husband??? I was starting to get worried! As the first storm went through I just sat and prayed for couraged as I am trying to count back money all at the same time (I couldn't believe the people out in the storm doing banking???? CRAZY, I am like do you FEEL your car rocking back and forth????) and this verse that I had just taught on Tuesday and Wednesday came to mind, Mark 4: 41, " Why are you afraid, do you still have no faith?" I thought about the disciples on their boat in the middle of the lake with that huge storm waking, they are waking Jesus up because they are scared to death of the winds, well that is how I felt Friday. The verse became the living word as it spoke peace to me during the storm, as the winds blew through town and the cell phones went dead, the lights blinking and cars rocking I held on tight to that verse, praying that God would get us all through this storm safely. That night as I went to bed I thanked God for all my children being home safe and sound, and a bed to sleep in that night with electricity pumping through our house.

The day was full of excitement and I knew that God showed up not only in the wind and rain but in the calm of the storm.

Adopted in Christ

As you can imagine Monday was rough day at our house the excitement of prom has ended and everyone wanted to sleep in, I did too! Now that life has returned to normal, last night I find my family in my mom and dad's front yard shaking up soda cans and shooting them with a BB gun. I told Kirk "we have finally arrived in Harrisburg Illinois!" What a site I just sat there and enjoyed watching the boys fight over the gun and talk big stuff only to have Sterling's girlfriend out shoot them all.

But onto the Word, we are no longer orphans in this world. Romans 8:16-17 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs-heirs of God and co-heirs of Christ, if we share in his suffereings in order that we may also share in his glory. We have been adopted by God I don't know if we truly understand the significance of these words unless we have been without family. We have a friend of Sterling that has been living with us, Awesome, Awesome man. Last night we were talking and it came up that he doesn't know if his mom will come to his graduation, he doesn't even know where she lives now. What do you say to that??? How does a child deal without a mom?? But we are children without a Father until we say yes to Jesus, how do others survive without the love and care of him?? How do you breathe, have hope and guidance. I know that I take this relationship for granted in my life, I have forgotten what it is like to be a orphan, living without him in this world. Thank you Jesus that even when we have no mom or dad in this world you come in and occupy that spot and so much more, you allow peace, forgiveness and hope. PRAISE YOU!

Praying constantly

This blog is in response to Leigh Gray's blog yesterday, as I read her blog I was definately relating, (I am glad to know I am normal or maybe Leigh we are both abnormal???) As I have been moving through the motions of life God has been speaking at the most interesting times, during my drives, washing the dishes etc. I have that conviction within me that the majority of my thoughts are not centered around our Jesus, I mean who has time????? I think of the verse in 1 Thessalonians 5: 16-19 that tells us to pray constantly, I have trouble getting in my morning quiet time and once that is done it is off to the races and every so often I stop for a moment and think I love you Jesus. Oh how I want to strive to have my thoughts centered on him constantly I mean God is instructing us in this because he knows that it is for the best life. But as for me what I eat, who I talk to, etc fill my thoughts throughout the day. Yes Leigh, I join you on that journey of going deeper with our Lord and striving to fill my days and nights with thoughts of Him and then everything else will be at peace within my heart, mind and soul.

Quit complaining and just give Him praise!

Recently God has allowed me some insight into my heart, in the economy of times things have gotten a bit tight, you know life happens and you wonder where all the vacation money has gone and suddenly you are grateful to be able to pay for the groceries. We hear again and again that no matter how much money we have we are a rich people, we are a rich nation yet I don't know if we really believe that?! As I paid the bills last month I just thanked the Lord that we had the money once again to pay them, I rarely do this I am usually wondering where all our money has gone, but in that moment I knew that this was obedience to praise him. The other day I was talking with a coworker and she tells me that she is once again facing chemo for Lupus and has 3 year old twins, (after praying for her) I just stood there forgetting about my small aches and pains and just said thank you God for my health, knowing that these words were obedience to him.

Why as Christians or maybe I am the only one, do complaints or negative thoughts come before praise and thankfulness???? As I have been focused this month on praise and thankfulness I have begun to understand that complaining and fussing is just sin, it does not reflect God's love to those around me or those watching me. I am striving to take in every moment not to take one word, one thought, one gesture for granted but to understand that my life and my heart of gratitude for my Jesus is my testimony to who he is in this world. I love him so!

Colossians 3: 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

New Season

Spring has sprung!!!!! It is suppose to be 84 degrees here today and warmer this weekend, Yeah Spring! I look out my backyard and the trees are blooming the grass is growing, the windows are open I love spring! Baseball and soccer games round out the weekend schedule along with a camping trip withOUT mom and dad so maybe Kirk and I will get a movie in tonight after the soccer game???? Spring feels good, the new pastels, the bright sandals but we will leave out the swimsuit talk, even though the boys are already asking to go swimming. As I sit and listen to the birds, watch the flowers come alive and the clouds blow through the sky I marvel at our creator, how God must love design and color and how he made this world so beautiful out of his love for us.

Isaiah 40: 22-26 sums up my thoughts of my Lord today, how I love him and marvel at his wonder.

God sits above the circle of the earth. The people below seem like grasshoppers to him! He spreads out the heavens like a curtain and makes his tent from them. He judges the great people of the world and brings them all to nothing. They hardly get started, barely taking root, when he blows on them and they wither. The wind carries them off like chaff. "To whom will you compare me? Who is my equal?" asks the Holy One. Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Because of his great power and incomparable strength not a single one is missing.

Worldview

I have just started a Worldview Religion class and we are studying the different religions, what they believe, how they were founded and why they disagree with Christianity. This subject has been so interesting. Every week it pushes you to understand why you believe what you believe and how to reach out to other religions. One of the realizations that I have had is that everyone
is looking for the same thing; we want guidance, fulfillment, and answers to eternity. As I sit through class and read the books I am so grateful that I have a God that loves me and that Jesus has paid the price for my sins. Most other religions have this good deed vs bad deed thing going with no security of what the scale says until it is all said and done. Then there is the thought that this is all there is, how lonely, how sad. In studying Marxism, it is said "God was simply the creation of people, who projected their own qualities onto an imaginary deity in whom they could find security. He shared the notion that only when people give up their belief in God will they be truly free" (The Compact Guide to World Religions, Halverson pg 152) How the enemy has blinded the eyes of those that are searching for what we have found. I know that my freedom began the day I gave my life to Jesus, he set me free from my fears, my anxiety, my pride, my insecurities and set my heart on what is to come to help me have the strength for today. My prayer is that my life and your life as believers will reveal the one true God, one that loves, hears, sees and forgives our sins to fulfill that which every human searches for, answers to how to live this life.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his only son. That whosoever believes in him will not perish but will have everlasting life.

Conversations

As I have returned to school and have gone back to work I am getting a fresh glimpse at the hearts of ordinary people and what I hear makes my heart hurt. One of the most pronounce subjects that come up in conversations are the hurt feelings that people have experienced in church. Many families have stopped going to church because they can worship God on their own and don't want to be with a bunch of hypocrites. These conversations are very sincere and you can feel the hurt that has not healed. In one instance I was just talking about the church that I go to and the anger that arose out of the conversation totally took me by surprise. The unfortuate event surrounded a pastor not marrying this couple because they lived together, only to find out he was addicted to pornography and released from the church right after that situation. I sat there and had no words. Unfortunately this is not the only conversation that I have had over the past few weeks that follows the same hurt and removal from church.

Let's be honest Church can be a very difficult place to go and love Jesus in the midst of all our sin. Satan has done a great job of making Church about ourselves and not about worshipping God. There has been times that I have come home crying from Church wondering why I go, but my love for the heart of Jesus and his church has always won out. I love Church I love the people even imperfect as we are, I love the building, I love what it represents in my life and I know that the last thing God wants for our lives is to abandon our family no matter how disfuctional we are.

My challenge has become to be like Jesus, to welcome everyone in so as they come into his house they know the love that he has for them. I will never be perfect but after these past few conversations I realize that just going to church on Sunday is life and death to some that are just looking for a reason to come back and stay. I am reminded that I am Jesus to someone that is trying to discover his love and a home to come and worship him in. My prayer is for the church to be reminded of the role that they play in the kingdom and to examine their purposes in the community and to love the world the way Jesus does.

Ephesians 1: 22-23
And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

Yet I will praise!

Habbakkuk 3: 17-19
Though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will triumph in the LORD; I will rejoice in the God of my salvation! Yahweh my Lord is my strength; He makes my feet like those of a deer and enables me to walk on mountain heights!

Yes I am still carrying this index card around on good days I even have it memorized. As I went to Walgreens the other day and my debit card was declined I thought of this verse. As I ran a red light to make it to the bank by 6pm to find out that I had messed up the check book and was getting ready to bounce a lot of checks YEKS, I thought of this verse!!!!!!!!!!! As I worry, and am overwhelmed with life, I think of this verse, yet I will praise you God. I am so blessed! So blessed to have the ability to pay bills and to feed my family. So blessed to have a God that loves me, that knows me and who I can trust. But there are times in our souls, in our hearts and minds that we are just empty. This emptiness may be financial, it maybe dreams that have been squished or it may be heart break. Whatever it may be, we find that our stalls are empty and we need to be inspired to not give up because YAHWEH is our Lord, we will still triumph no matter the circumstance because He is our God and our Salvation! And it motivates us to keep on climbing the mountains of life that are insurmountable to us but with him all things are possible. As I read this verse it reminds me to praise him that in my praise and in him there is always hope and that is where I must remain! Yet I will praise HIM!

The Journey

Okay it has been awhile I have been adjusting to going back to school and working full time, in the midst of all these changes I am wondering God what are you doing???? I really had this all figured out and this is not it. I am suppose to be home with the boys, speaking and serving others in church events and school. I have struggled this week! Is this a lack of faith that I have gone back to work or is it God's plan? (tough call) As I look around at how the arrow is pointing I am praying that I am right where God wants me and this morning as I read my scripture I thought of so many men in the Word that maybe wondered the same thing. You have David to be king and ends up in a field tending sheep, you have Joseph that ends up in a pit and then in jail and Paul who rarely was out of jail. All these men saw the calling but the journey there was different than maybe one would think it should be. So as I leave for work today wondering how am I going to do all of this, I go knowing that God has a plan and even though it is not by the Lisa Book, it is good and the journey will end in a victory that I could never imagine. Have faith my sisters God is good.

My index card verse this week:
Habakkuk 3: 17-19
Though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will triumph in the LORD; I will rejoice in the God of my salvation! Yahweh my Lord is my strength; He makes my feet like those of a deer and enables me to walk on mountain heights!

Waiting for God VS Idols

Exodus 32: 1-4, takes us to the Israelites as they are waiting for Moses to come down from the mountian and in their impatience, worry and fear they start to make a idol, a molten calf to be exact. Why would Aaron play into their fears collecting the gold allowing them to melt it down and then carve this calf? That thought only lasts a moment as I think about myself, so many times I know that God has promised to speak to me in a situation but as I wait I to begin to believe that he is not going to show up. As finances get tight and I don't see a way out I start to take control. As decisions are made that are wrong and I see no hope of change I start to take control. I build idols. I start to rely on others advice more than listening for God. I start to put my faith in money for my security. I do this everyday as I enjoy the speed of the internet, the communications of the cell phone and the satisfaction in fast food, I tend to rely on my quick fix idols than the wisdom, direction and love of my Lord. May I learn once again from the Israelites not to give into the temptation of fear, doubt, impatience and panic and wait for the Lord.

Speechless

I have been opening up my blogging site all week and then I just sit and look at the screen. As I type things they just don't sound the way that I am feeling and the verses are so personal I just can't put them on the screen. As life moves so fast and there are so many important decisions to be made I take refuge in our Lord. It is overwhelming the peace that he gives us as we discover how helpless we are without him. This verse has been my prayer as I go to sleep at night, I pray that it will speak to you as it has to me this week.

Matthew 11: 29-30, 29
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

Are God is not safe, but his salvation is eternal.

Last Sunday night as I sat in church and heard that a pastor in Illinois had been killed tears filled my eyes. Church is suppose to be safe. A brother in Christ was attacked on Holy Ground and the effects of this evil became very personal. As I prayed for this family and so many others that are suffering today, I come to realization that God is not safe. Our salvation is safe in him, his love for us is forever faithful, but safety it is not on the list. Throughout history good, strong, holy brothers and sisters in Christ have been killed and are being killed for believing in our God. If believing and obeying God were a safe haven for life everyone would come, their would be no cost to our faith. As I go deeper and deeper with God this a truth is one that has scared me because I know that following the Lord, obeying his commands and going where he send me does not mean safety but it means that I trust him in whatever happens. And it is in that trust that he is wanting to grow me, yet it is that truth that stops me from obeying so many times. Our human side wants to be safe, comfortable and in control. Yet none of these things are listed in the Bible as God's priorities for us. Take a moment to really read the Bible, the prophets, the disciples their comfort and safety was not their purpose in life it was a life lived passionately in love with Jesus so that in whatever they faced they would stay faithful. This truth is one of the toughest ones for me to live out but it is a truth that disarms the enemy and makes God more powerful in my life. I must learn to trust so that obedience in this world will not be compromised by my flesh wanting to be safe in this world. Please pray for this family and church that has lost a father, a pastor and a leader may healing and peace be with come to them through this tragedy.

Matthew 10: 27-29
27What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs. 28Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father.

May some walls come down!

Okay so I am sitting in my class last night and the assignment is to write a 3-5 page paper concerning a job situation, your experience and then to do research to grow from this experience. Well I thought I had this all worked out and then in middle of class it is like God goes WHOMP with a new idea. So I sit there pondering, while trying to listen to the teacher, (thinking God you could have given me a little notice on this one!) and work the outline out. So as I sit there and start to outline this idea I figure out that this is a HUGE faith wall that I have up and God is trying to do some remodeling when I least expect it.

So here is the thought and I will get into this more later but maybe someone out there needs to relate to this and join me in my discovery. I have always had this mental block of how to be a missionary in a secular job, now I know this seems elementary to many but really I want to be a missionary, I want to be 100% in the mission field and God has just not called me to that and I seem to find myself in management positions in the secular world just feeling like I am missing something. So this paper is my job experience as a christian manager and what a difference it makes in job performance, team atmosphere and joy in my life. I will reflect how I use to do business without the Lord and then as the Lord drew me to him how my management styles changed and I could really see a difference on a daily level. I am excited about doing research on this paper and studing how christian men and women business leaders use their faith in the secular world and what statistics say about a christian business verse non- christian leadership.

So join me on this journey as I am sure more post are to follow and allow God to tear down some walls that will set us free for our purposes while we are here.

Colossians 3:23-24
23Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, 24since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Many blessings Lisa

  • Freedom of Religion

  • Free society

  • Unlimited Opportunities

  • Food, Homes, Jobs

I just feel like someone needs to say, I LOVE AMERICA!!! We so often get lost in life, we get sucked into the moral decline and focus only on the negative and forget how God has blessed us with this country. I just wanted to tell God today, thank you. As I find myself in this gratitude it awakens in me a passion to fight for this nation one that has become great because of our GOD and people that have been willing to fight for it. Political correctness is not on my list today.

2 Chronicles 7: 14, if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

God today in this great nation you are my King, my Father and will alway be. I pray that you will revive this nation, that we will discover through your Holy Spirit repentance and gratitude for all that you have given us. I pray for our leaders that their hearts will fall in love with you that obedience to you will be their hearts pleasure, joy and desire. God be with us as we fight for your will, your heart and your face to be seen in this great nation. Glory to my Father! I love you Lisa

I would love to hear from you:
