Joking around

Soren Kierkegaard wrote of a fire that broke out backstage in a theater. The clown came out to inform the audience. They thought it was just part of the show-a joke- and applauded his announcement. He repeated his warning, but they shouted all the louder. "So I think the world will come to an end amid general applause from all the wits, who believe that it is a joke." he says. But the demise of the world is not a joke. It is the challenge of our day, and responding as Christ followers is the great call on our lives. quote from Serious Times by James Emery White.

Is life a joke? I mean do we really just look around and laugh and as the Scriptures scream to us save your souls and those around you, do we applaude even louder just wanting to be entertained? Do we take our opportunities to lightly and under the deceit of the enemy ignore the warnings and allow ourselves and those around us to die to our own self centered lives?

God has filled the Word of God with warnings. He has sounded the alarm and is waiting for us to take action. To throw people over our shoulder and carry them to safety. The safety of his arms. He has told us he is coming again and to get ready, but for most of us this is not a thought during the day. I think of the 10 bridesmaids in Matthew 25: 1-13, as they went on with life to meet the reality of the fire in the end.

Brothers and sisters may we not take the Word of God and turn it into a joke. We must understand that this is our God, our King sounding the warnings and we must respond in obedience so that in the end we will not be burned.

I would love to hear from you:
